Day 10: 73.95 km

May 16th, 2012

Revelstoke- Rogers Pass Summit

Today we all woke up in Revelstoke together, finally. It's been a few days since we had seen Matt so it was good to finally catch up.

For breakfast, Dad and I went to Denny's in Revelstoke, and Matt went on to this restaurant at Canyon Hotsprings that he had heard about. We were going to meet at Canyon Hotsprings and Matt was supposed to eat super slow. Turns out its not a restaurant. It's a really nice campground with more of a cafe/convenience store. I'm not sure what Matt ate, but never the less, we lost him. He's probably already in Golden!

Rogers pass was hard today. Everything we had heard and read said it was just a long consistent easy 1.7% climb. Every time we have driven it it didn't even feel like a pass, it seemed easy. It wasn't.  It didn't feel like 1.7% at all.  Right to start it out there was a 7% climb, then it was a slow consistent climb. But we had lost all speed. I was not mentally ready for Rogers pass to be tough.

I was really hoping we would be in Golden tonight. Even though it was 150 km including the pass. It's going to be a tough couple days over these last few passes. I just really want the passes to be over at this point. It's a mentally, and physically tough time. This will Definitely be the toughest time. (Hopefully)

Rain is here, and we are hoping to make good time tomorrow. Not too sure wHere we will be and how wet it will get. Hopefully it will be better than today, though Kickinghorse pass will be worse.

I continue to be very impressed with your trip. The fabulous, glorious, picturesque, mountains of our province, as majestic and lovely as they are, make for one heck of a bike ride. Your continued courage for this epic is inspiring. Pass after pass must be tearing at your muscles. You will need extra internal energy to keep you going. I am sure that Steve will help. I can almost hear him cheering for you. And HEY! Where the heck did Matt go?

    Wake: the vaulted shadow shatters.
Trampled to the floor it spanned,
And the tent of night in tatters
    Straws the sky-pavilioned land.
